The children’s story “Wayra de Cuzco” was recently published. It is a fun and informative coloring book based on an initiative by Emily, Francis, and Naths from the Colitas con canas shelter in Urubamba, Cuzco, Peru, sponsored by 3Love Inc. Both organizations seek to raise awareness among children about the problem of stray dogs and the importance of taking responsibility for keeping them healthy and well cared for.
“Wayra de Cuzco” tells the story of a dog named Wayra who was born in a home where animals were not well cared for and one day is abandoned on the street, facing various dangers until her luck changes when she meets a girl named María, who offers her a new home.
Through the inspiring story of Wayra, this book allows children to color illustrations by artist Claudia Calderón while learning about the difficulties faced by abandoned or abused dogs and how their lives can be transformed when a family gives them love, food, and care.
The book also provides information about how many puppies a female dog can have over time, making it an educational tool for understanding the importance of vaccinating and spaying dogs so that they can live long lives and there are no more homeless puppies.
As part of Colitas con canas and 3Love Inc.’s mission to defend animals and build a better planet for them, a new dog sterilization campaign was carried out in July at the Valle Sagrado veterinary clinic in the city of Urubamba, in Cuzco. During this activity, the owners of the sterilized dogs received copies of the short story “Wayra de Cuzco” and important information about caring for their pets.
With an initial print run of 2,000 copies, the book “Wayra de Cuzco” is not for sale, but is distributed free of charge in schools and at educational events, with the aim of reaching children. If other individuals or institutions would like to obtain a copy of the book, they can contact Emily Ellis of Colitas con canas at colitasconcanas@gmail.com to obtain the PDF version.
